Winter Break at the Liam Whaley Pro Center in Tarifa

Each year, as the busy summer winds fade along the Atlantic coast, the Liam Whaley Pro Center at Valdevaqueros Beach enters its seasonal winter pause. Located in the kitesurfing capital of Tarifa, the center typically closes for a short off-season break during the winter months, reopening again in March when the spring winds return and the new kitesurfing season begins.

The center, founded by world champion kitesurfer Liam Whaley, offers lessons and rental equipment for kitesurfing, wing foiling, windsurfing, and stand-up paddling. Throughout the main season—from spring through autumn—it operates directly on Valdevaqueros Beach, one of Tarifa’s most iconic wind sports spots, attracting riders from across Europe.

During winter, the quieter rhythm of Tarifa takes over. Many beach schools and chiringuitos temporarily close or reduce operations while the town shifts into a slower local pace. For the Pro Center team, this break allows time to prepare the next season’s equipment and training programs. When March arrives, the school returns with fresh gear—often the latest models from Duotone and other brands—and welcomes riders back to the water.
